We often stop at the Kittery Outlets on the way to/from our vacation rental in Wells, Maine. Inevitably, our stomachs begin to growl while we’re shopping, and for a long time, we thought Robert’s Maine Grill was the only good restaurant nearby. We recently discovered another great option and highly recommend it!
Located on US Route 1 approximately 1 mile North of the stores, When Pigs Fly Pizzeria is full-service restaurant with excellent food, an extensive beer selection, kids menu, and cool atmosphere. The concrete floors, high ceilings with exposed ductwork, and metal-framed chairs give it industrial, yet inviting feel. The vibe bustles.
On the menu, you’ll find a large selection of unique appetizers, wood-fired pizzas, pasta dishes, and gourmet sandwiches served on fresh bread which they bake daily on premise. They also offer several freshly prepared items for children.
We really enjoyed the grilled pineapple and cappicola pizza, as well as the heirloom tomato pizza with smoked mozzarella, basil and arugula. The tomato sandwich served with ricotta pesto, onion, fresh mozzarella, a balsamic drizzle, and arugula was also yummy. Our kids gave the mac and cheese with fresh veggies two thumbs up.
In addition to the delicious food, we love that they have at least 20 craft beers on tap, including several from Germany. What’s even better is that you can order a flight of up to 7 sample size (4.75 oz) beers when you can’t decide on just one! This location is also serves as home to the When Pigs Fly Company Store, which offers over 25 varieties of all natural breads. Soooo good!
