Wells Things To Do
- Go to one of the beaches in Wells – Wells boasts 7 miles of coastline and long stretches of white sandy beaches.
- Kick back and get lost in a good read. At Annie’s Book Stop, you can get “today’s books at yesterday’s prices.” All pre-read books sell for half of the original cover price and new books are discounted. Also, Annie’s will accept your used paperback books for credit towards others.
- Play skee ball and your favorite video games at the Boardwalk Arcade on Wells Beach.
- Go to a movie on a chilly or rainy day. There are 6 cinemas near Wells.
- Pick your own berries, veggies, apples or pumpkins at Spiller Farm. They also offer hay rides in the Fall.
- Ride an electric street car at the Seashore Trolley Museum in nearby Kennebunkport.
- Love craft beer? Maine is home to more than 20 micro breweries! Take a guided tour of Maine’s breweries or map your own visits with information from the Maine Brewers’ Guild web site.
- Take the 17-minute ferry ride from Portland to Peaks Island and rent bikes from Brad. Casco Bay Lines offers year-round ferry service to 7 Maine islands, plus seasonal trips to Bailey’s Island and scenic cruises. Brad’s bike shop doesn’t have a web site, but it is easy to find and only a 5-minute walk from the dock. Once you disembark, take a left on Island Ave and you’ll the bikes lined up ahead on the right side of the road. The 4-mile ride around the perimeter is very picturesque.
- Shop! There are plenty of retail therapy options when you vacation on the Southern coast of Maine.
- See a show at the Ogunquit Playhouse, a classic summer theater. The Ogunquit Playhouse has been producing shows in Southern Maine for more than 80 years. You would be amazed by the talent they bring to their stage from Broadway, television, and film.
- Race go-karts at Maine Indoor Karting in Scarborough, ME. (28 mi N.)
- Walk the Marginal Way in Ogunquit. The paved footpath offers sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean and spans a little more than a mile along the shoreline from Perkins Cove to Ogunquit Beach. So peaceful!
- Ride Your Bike on the Eastern Trail from Kennebunk to Biddeford – The Eastern Trail (ET) is a 65 mile marked bike route that extends from Kittery to South Portland, ME. There is an off-road section between Kennebunk and Biddeford that provides over 6 miles of easy and scenic terrain. You can park and access this part of the Eastern Trail at the Kennebunk Elementary School – 177 Alewive Road, Kennebunk, ME 04043 (9 mi N)
- Take your kids to York’s Wild Kingdom, a small zoo & amusement park located 10 miles South on Rt. 1 in York, ME. Free parking is available for guests who enter using the Rt. 1 entrance. You may also enter via Rt.1A where there is metered parking, shops, restaurants and a beach. TIPS:
- Coupons can often be found in visitor guides, at McDonalds and online.
- Looking for an evening activity? The rides are usually open until 9:30 pm and you can buy an unlimited pass for approximately $11.
- Enjoy the rides and midway games at Palace Playland in Old Orchard. It’s New England’s only beachfront amusement park.
- Funtown Splashtown USA up the road in Saco is Maine’s biggest amusement and water park. (20 minutes North.)
- Also located in Saco, Aquaboggan Water Park is another water park option for those who want to spend the whole day wet.
- Water Country Water Park down the road in Portsmouth, NH, is New England’s largest waterpark. (30 minutes South.)
- Take Flight in Kittery is Maine’s largest aerial adventure course and the first zip line course on Maine’s seacoast! (25 minutes South.)
