Merriland Farm Cafe Restaurant Review

If friends hadn’t told us about Merriland Farm Cafe, I’m not sure we would have ever discovered this hidden gem in Wells, ME.  The restaurant is located off the beaten path, and you won’t find it advertised in any tourist brochures.  That’s part of what makes it wonderful, so thank goodness for word of mouth!

I’ve eaten breakfast at Merriland Farm Cafe 4 times so far, and each experience has been delightful.  What I love most is that it is the whole package, complete with mouth-watering food, generous portions, very reasonable prices, great service and a charming setting.  Plus, there is a quaint patio area where you can dine outside on nice days.

Some of our favorite items on Merriland Farm’s breakfast menu are fresh twists on eggs Benedict.  There are so many scrumptious options that it’s difficult to choose sometimes.  Here are just a few examples:

• Irish Eyes – Poached eggs with homemade corned beef hash and broiled mozzarella
• Cafe Rancheros – Poached eggs with Italian sausage, peppers, onions, broiled jack cheese, sour cream, crumbled bacon and diced tomatoes
• Lobster Benedict – Poached eggs with Maine lobster, bacon and homemade hollandaise sauce
• Phantastic Philly – An omelet stuffed with sautéed beef tenderloin, Genoa salami, onions, mushrooms sweet bell peppers and provolone cheese.
• Crepes and Belgian waffles topped with fresh berries.
• Monte Cristo – Cinnamon batter grilled bread with Swiss cheese, turkey and ham.

I can’t wait until we re-open our Wells vacation rental in the spring and try Merriland Farm Cafe for dinner.  They offer a Friday night prime rib special, as well as number of intriguing seafood and pasta dishes.

Net-Net:  This quaint farmhouse surrounded by beautiful grounds offers excellent food made with high quality, locally sourced ingredients and a refined, but relaxed atmosphere.

(Note: While the Merriland Farm Cafe is not a stuffy restaurant, the intimate atmosphere may make you and others uncomfortable if you’re accompanied by clamorous diners. )
