There is nothing worse than spending your hard-earned money on a mediocre meal and bad service. We love food, and with backgrounds in the restaurant industry, it seemed only natural to dedicate pages on our Wells Vacation Rental website to our favorite places to eat in Wells, Ogunquit, Kennebunkport, Portland and other nearby towns in Southern Maine.
Check back frequently. This list of restaurant recommendations will change and grow as we try more places and our friends add their two cents. UPDATED September 2023.
Our Wells Restaurant Recommendations
Best Donuts & Breakfast – Congdon’s Family Restaurant & Bakery – 1090 Post Road (Rt. 1), Wells, ME 04090 – Their mouth-watering, homemade donuts should not be missed. They also offer the best breakfast sandwiches and bowls in town. We love their Irish Eggs Benedict bowl and burrito with HOMEMADE corned beef hash.

Best Brunch – Merriland Farm Cafe – 591 Coles Hill Road, Wells, ME 04090 – What a hidden gem! This quaint farmhouse tucked in the woods offers excellent food made with high quality, locally sourced ingredients and a refined, but relaxed ambiance. Read our restaurant review of Merriland Farm Cafe.
Best Fried Seafood – Fisherman’s Catch – 134 Harbor Road, Wells, ME 04090 – Hands down, this is our favorite place for fried seafood in Wells. We also love the marsh views, kitschy decor, friendly staff, quick service, and that they serve local microbrews.
Best Asian Food – Mekhong Thai Wells – 162 Post Rd, Wells, ME 04090 – We have accumulated so many takeout containers from Mekhong Thai in Wells that we no longer need Tupperware. No, we’re not lazy and don’t want to cook. The food is that good. We crave it. They serve the best Thai food we’ve eaten anywhere. Everything is super flavorful and the quality of ingredients they use is excellent. TIP: For only a couple of dollars more, you can add extra protein for sharing or leftovers.
Best Steak UPDATED – Prior to July 2022, our go-to for steak was always Stutesy’s Pub & Grill – 52 Post Road (Rt. 1), Moody, ME. Their tips are super tasty and the portions are generous. Plus, we love the cozy, sports pub feel. It’s still a favorite, but we’re also renewed fans of The Steakhouse – 205 Post Rd, Wells, ME. We avoided The Steakhouse in the past because of the long waits and loud atmosphere, but we recently gave it another try and decided it’s a a great option for satisfying our inner carnivore. Check out our restaurant review of Stutesy’s
Best of the Best – Bitter End – 2118 Post Rd. (Rt. 1), Wells, ME 04090 – Hallelujah! You no longer have to dress up or drive to Kennebunkport or Ogunquit for gourmet food. Bitter End has a funky and eclectic decor, fabulous outside bar, and a seriously delicious menu. Seriously, there isn’t anything on the menu we don’t love.
Best Pub Food, Late Night Eats & Evening Entertainment – Féile Restaurant and Pub – 1619 Post Road (Rt. 1), Wells, ME 04090 – The perfect place to enjoy a casual night out with friends. Karaoke and bands on weekend. Excellent beer selection and decent pub food.
Best Ice Cream (tie) – Big Daddy’s Ice Cream – 2165 Post Road (Route 1) in Wells, ME 04090 – Another great option for ice cream at the North end of Wells. This one has equally good ice cream and indoor seating.
Best Ice Cream (tie) – Scoop Deck – 6 Eldredge Road (Just off Post Rd/Route 1), Wells, ME 04090 – This take-out ice cream joint offers a gazillion fantastic flavors. A perfect way to top off dinner. Open from Memorial Day weekend until Labor Day weekend.
